New Delhi: Liverpool defender Joe Gomez will miss large parts of the rest of the season due to a hamstring injury that may necessitate surgery, according to manager Arne Slot. On February 9, Liverpool lost to Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup fourth round, and the England center-back was replaced after 11 minutes.After missing six weeks due to a prior hamstring issue, Gomez was making his first appearance. The 27-year-old Gomez has only made 10 starts this season; the team has not yet determined if he needs surgery.
Slot, however, stated that he might be needing that operation and that the defender will be out for a long time regardless of whether a procedure is necessary. “It’s a big blow for Joe and for us,” said Slot.
The English defender has barely been involved this season if you compare his previous season’s involvement that had 51 appearances in all competitions for the Reds. However, he has proved himself to be a rather important squad player for the Reds over the past few seasons but currently his chances of being involved in their major games is less likely with Jarrel Quansah coming up the ranks and performing well for the Reds.

Slot on Gomez’s potential absence
Arne Slot seems to be a little concerned and he definitely had some big praises for the English defender when asked about his condition and his importance to the squad.
“He works really hard to come back and then the first game when he came back after two or three minutes we saw him making a sprint and now he is out for weeks again.” Slot said.
The Dutch coach firther claimed that Gomez might miss out on a large part of the season, but at the same time he is expecting him to be back during the final stages of the season.
On Wednesday Liverpool will be taking on Aston Villa at Villa Park in an attempt to win and go up to the top of the Premier League standings by ten points. Cody Gakpo is still out for Liverpool after missing Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Wolves at Anfield due to an injury.
