New Delhi: The Indian Railways is planning to manufacture 10,000 non-AC coaches to cater to the rising demand for affordable train travel. The Indian Railways is eyeing the production of 9,929 non-AC coaches by 2025026, according to railway officials.
The Indian Railways plans to build 4,485 non-AC coaches in the current financial year, i.e., FY25. The remaining 5,444 coaches of a non-AC nature are likely to be built by FY26, the TOI reported citing railway officials. Out of the total non-AC coaches, one-third are likely to be general seating coaches.
Amrit Bharat Express train routes
The Indian Railways led by Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launched 2 Amrit Bharat Express non-AC trains for railway passengers. The Amrit Bharat Express is capable of speeds up to 130 kmph have locomotives at both ends to facilitate faster affordable travel for the common Indian citizen.
The Indian Railways plans to roll out 50 new Amrit Bharat trains following the positive response to the two existing trains that run on the Darbhanga-Ayodhya-Anand Vihar and Malda-Bengaluru routes. Overall, the Modi government is planning to buiuld 1,000 new generation Amrit Bhareat trains capable of speeds of up to 250 km.

The LHB push-pull design Amrit Bharat Express coaches are equipped with advanced coupler technology and are known to have improved acceleration and deceleration capabilities. The train sets have sliding doors to separate reserved and unreserved coaches with horizontal sliding windows and dust-sealed gangways with enhanced width.
Vande Bharat sleeper train and metro
The Indian Railways plans to roll out the Vande Bharat sleeper trains and Vande Bharat metros for testing this year, which are being built by BEML and RCF-ICF, respectively. Railways minister Vaishnaw had earlier expressed optimism about the Vande Bharat sleeper train trials starting on August 15, 2024.
