Boys in Blue mob emotional PR Sreejesh as hockey great bids adieu with Olympic bronze – Watch

New Delhi: India’s men’s hockey team signed off from the Paris Olympics 2024 on a high after edging out Spain in the bronze medal match on Thursday. In what was veteran goalkeeper PR Sreejesh’s farewell match, India kept the nerves till the end showcasing a quality defense to secure the bronze 2-1. With the bronze secured by the Harmanpreet Singh-led side, India bagged their fourth medal at the ongoing sporting extravaganza.

After the last hooter blew, the entire Indian contingent ran after towards the seasoned goalkeeper and mobbed him as teary-eyed Sreejesh could not control his emotions on the field. An emotional  Sreejesh paid tribute to his goalkeeping gloves after finishing his career with a bronze as he bowed down to his equipment before leaving the field. Apart from this, the entire Indian hockey team also bowed down to the legendary goalkeeper who has been one of best players for the Indian hockey team.

Spain scored the opener in the crucial bronze medal contest and took an early lead in the 18th minute of the match. India took some time before they bounced back two goals in quick succession. Captain Harmanpreet Singh scored both the goals in 30th and 33rd minute for the Men in Blue after Spain’s early lead.

India had clinched at bronze medal in the last edition of the Olympics at Tokyo, which was their first medal in 41 years.
