Sao Paulo: Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva announced three days of official mourning across Brazil for the 62 victims of a plane crash in Vinhedo.
Lula shared the news on his X account, stating, “Em memória das 61 vítimas do trágico acidente em Vinhedo, decretamos luto oficial de 3 dias no país,” which translates to, “In memory of the 61 victims of the tragic accident in Vinhedo, we decree official mourning for 3 days in the country.”
Disturbing visuals of the crash, which reportedly had 62 people on board, have surfaced on social media, showing the plane exploding into a fireball soon after the crash in Sao Paulo’s Vinhedo region on Friday.
The Brazilian plane, operated by Voepass Linhas Aereas, crashed in the city of Vinhedo in São Paulo state o. The aircraft, which had taken off from Cascavel in Paraná state, was en route to Guarulhos Airport in São Paulo.
City officials at Valinhos, near Vinhedo, confirmed that there were no survivors and that only one home in the local condominium complex was damaged, with no residents injured.
Voepass Linhas Aereas issued a statement following the crash of Flight 2283, confirming that the plane had 58 passengers and 4 crew members on board when it crashed on August 9.
A Brazilian plane, VoePass ATR 72, went missing from radar near Vinhedo City during its flight to São Paulo, according to Flightradar24. Brazil’s airport authority, Infraero, did not immediately confirm the situation, and no airlines reported a missing plane until the crash.
