New Delhi: With Nirmala Sitharaman taking charge of the finance ministry for the second consecutive time, all eyes are on Budget 2024-25 which will be presented in the Monsoon Session of Parliament in July. The Monsoon Session is likely to commence on 20th of July, 2024 and end on 11th of August. The Parliament is likely to be in Session for over a period of 23 days.
Budget 2024 Date
Budget 2024-25 would be the first full budget of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government which was formed after BJP and its alliance partners, JD(U) and TDP, won the Lok Sabha Election 2024. The previous Modi government had presented the Interim Budget 2024 on February 1, 2024.
Sitharaman would be creating a history as she would be the first woman finance minister of India to present the seventh Budget in a row and sixth full Budget. The Union Budget 2024-25 is likely to be presented in the first week of the Monsoon Session of Parliament. The Modi 3.0 government will soon announce the dates of the Budget presentation. Pankaj Chaudhary has been appointed as the MoS in the Finance Ministry.
Sitharaman assured that her government is fully committed to ensuring ‘Ease of Living’ for the people of the country and its citizens and will continue to take further steps in this regard.
Interim Budget announcements
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Interim Union Budget for 2024-2025 in Parliament on February 1, 2024 and announced that the capital expenditure outlay for the next year is being increased by 11.1 per cent to Rs 11,11,111 crore, which would be 3.4 per cent of the GDP.
In her Budget speech, the minister informed that the fiscal deficit in 2024-25 is estimated to be 5.1 per cent of the GDP. The government announced that no change in taxation has been proposed in the Interim Budget. The interest rates for direct taxes and indirect taxes, including import duties, were retained.
