New Delhi: Team India skipper Suyakumar Yadav expressed his pleasure after his side eked out an 11-run win against South Africa in the third T20I at the SuperSport Park in Centurion on Wednesday. Although the skipper himself couldn’t go big in the clash, he was full of praise for his batters who “eased out” his work and accomplished the job. Tilak Varma took the spotlight in the game as he scored his maiden international century.
South Africa had invited India to bat first and on the back of Abhishek Sharma’s half-century and Varma’s hundred, India put up a total of 219/6 in 20 overs. Hardik Pandya and debutant Ramandeep Singh made little contributions as well. However, despite Marco Jansen’s batting heroics, the hosts couldn’t go over the line. speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Suryakumar revealed how Tilak Varma went for the century.
“He (Tilak) came to my room at Gqeberha and said give me a chance at No. 3, I want to do well and I said go out there and express yourself. He asked for it and he delivered. Very happy for him and his family,” Surya said.
Speaking on the performance of his team, he said that he is happy and that the team played the “brand of cricket” as discussed in the team meeting. “That’s what we have been telling them to do. They do that for the franchise, they do that in the nets. Very happy with the way things are going. Aggression and intent is always not about talking. They have made my job easier when I see them bat like that. I feel we are in the right direction. First time we were 6-7 minutes ahead on the field,” Surya added.
Final T20I in Johannesburg
With the first three T20Is completed, the teams will move to Johannesburg for the final match of the series. While India will aim to continue the winning run to seal the series, South Africa can only go for a series tie at their best. They had levelled the series after winning the second T20I and will be thinking of making a similar performance while playing at the iconic Wanderers Stadium. The match will be played on November 15, Friday.
