‘Can’t be sitting in your hotel room’: Gavaskar’s advice to India after Adelaide loss

New Delhi: Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has requested the Indian team to utilise the next two days to practice and work upon the shortcomings before stepping on to the field at the Gabba in Brisbane. The comments come after India lost to Australia in the second Test match in Adelaide on Sunday.

Australia defeated India by 10 wickets to bounce back in the five-match series, levelling it 1-1. The match was wrapped within the third day after India were bowled out for 175 in the first session, leaving the hosts to chase a paltry target of 19 runs. Australian openers completed the mere formality in 20 balls.

After the match, Gavaskar asked the Indian players to hit the nets for the next two days (December 9 & 10) when the team will get additional rest day.

“Look at the remainder of the series as a three-match series. Forget that it’s a five-match series. What I would like the Indian team to do is use the next couple of days as practice. You can’t be sitting in your hotel rooms because you have come here to play cricket,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

“You don’t have to practice the whole day, you can practice a session in morning or afternoon, but don’t waste the two days. You would’ve been here playing a Test if it went for five days,” he added.

Gavaskar doesn’t mind if Rohit, Kohli are exempted from practice

Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 100 in Perth to start the Border Gavaskar Trophy on a bright note. Kohli, however, didn’t carry the form into one of his favourite venue – Adelaide Oval – getting scores of seven and 11 in respective innings.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who returned to lead the side in the second match, demoted himself in the batting order at No.6 position. He couldn’t adapt to his role in the formative years of Test cricket, registering just three and six runs in both innings.

Though Rohit and Virat haven’t performed well in the recent loss, Gavaskar didn’t want them to take extra practice sessions, but felt other batters of the team shouldn’t be exempted from it.

“If you don’t want Rohit or Kohli to come and practice because they are seniors and they have been here several times, that’s fine. But let the others, the youngsters, come here and practice,” Gavaskar said.

Following India’s defeat in the second Test against Australia, Sunil Gavaskar urged the team to utilize the next two days for intensive practice to address their shortcomings before the Brisbane match. He emphasised the importance of using the rest days productively, suggesting focused practice sessions to improve performance.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
