New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reached a consensus to conduct the Champions Trophy 2025 in a hybrid model, suggests a report on news agency PTI. This will allow India to play their share of matches at a neutral venue, which in all likelihood would be Dubai, the report further mentions. The ICC has also agreed to a similar arrangement in multi-lateral events till 2027.
The report mentions that a top ICC source told the news agency that the decision was more or less finalised during an informal meeting on Thursday, December 5, at ICC headquarter in Dubai between new chairman Jay Shah and the Board of Directors, including Pakistan. It is being learnt that all the parties have agreed that the CT 2025 will be held in the UAE and Pakistan with Team India playing their games in Dubai.
CT 2025 to be held in February-March
The Champions Trophy is to be held in February-March next year. Although the official dates are yet to b announced but tentatively, the tournament would be held from February 19 to March 9 2025. Pakistan had demanded a reciprocal arrangement for itself till 2031 but the global governing body agreed for a hybrid model for all its event till 2027.
During these three years, India would be hosting the women’s ODI World Cup in October this year and the 2026 men’s T20 World Cup jointly with Sri Lanka. The report additionally mentions that during the 2026 men’s T20 World Cup, Pakistan will play its matches in Sri Lanka, the other host for the event apart from India. However, the compensation demanded by PCB for the CT hybrid model is still under consideration
The meeting for December 5, Thursday was officially postponed by two days and would now be held on December 7 instead but it is being said that all the formalities and the final decision has been taken and it just would be officially public in the next couple of days.
