New Delhi: World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev has promised to visit Vinod Kambli, who was recently discharged from a hospital in Thane. Kambli was released from the hospital on Wednesday after spending over 10 days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). He was admitted to the hospital on December 21 due to severe health issues, including urinary infection, cramps and brain clotting.
Kambli was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday in a physically frail condition but high in spirits. Upon his release, the 52-year-old former cricketer posed for photographs with the hospital staff and played a short game of cricket.
Shailesh Thakur, director of Akruti Hospital, said that during Kambli’s stay in the hospital, he video-called former India captain Kapil Dev. The 1983 World Cup-winning captain and his teammates had extended their offer to help the Mumbai cricketer.
“Hi Kapil paaji how are you,” replied an emotional Kambli to Kapil’s greeting through the call.
The legendary cricketer spoke to his one-time teammate for a brief while.

“I will come and see you. You are looking good, you have coloured your beard. Don’t rush. If you need to stay (in the hospital) for a few more days, please don’t rush. Tell the doctors it is fine if there is a need to stay on for two more days,” Kapil said.
“Take care. When you will better and come out, I will come to meet you. Look after yourself, love you,” Kapil added.
Kapil also thanked Thakur for taking good care of Kambli.
Kambli was recently captured dancing to a popular song in the hospital. The video created a massive buzz on social media with his performance lifting the spirits of the medical staff at the hospital.
On Wednesday, a News18 report claimed that Kambli might lose his home if he is unable to clear the outstanding society maintenance fees of Rs 18 lakh.
Kambli recieved financial help from friends and former Indian cricketers during his stay at the hospital. He came into the limelight during a function celebrating his and Sachin Tendulkar’s coach Ramakant Achrekar in Mumbai.
