We are improving the safety features of city buses by installing crash bars between the bus wheels. With this measure, we have ensured the safety of two-wheeler riders and pedestrians. Barrier bars are installed to prevent anyone from getting into an accident under the bus when two-wheeler riders overtake the bus or at unexpected times.
About 2,212 buses were selected for this purpose. Out of these 600 buses have been selected for the first phase and 1,612 buses for the second phase. So far 715 buses have been equipped with this safety feature. It is reported that the work of installing the wires is going on in full swing.
“More than 3000 buses are operated on more than 600 routes by the Chennai Metropolitan Transport Corporation. In this case, the incidents of two-wheeler riders stumbling on the side of the bus and getting trapped under the wheel have been a recurring story. In order to put an end to this, the work of erecting barricades on the lower sides of the buses is underway, A senior official said.
