Chennai: Many parts of Chennai has witnessed over night rains on Wednesday left the city waterlogged at several places. While many parts of the city received 5-15mm rains, few places of especially Western Chennai and suburbs thrashed with very heavy spells of 50-60mm last night. Heavy rains with strong winds occurred in various areas including Egmore, Ambattur, Santhome, Mylapore, Madhavaram, Guindy, Medavakkam and mogappair last night. It is raining continuously in various places even in the morning.
Chennai Regional Meteorological Department said due to the change in the speed of the westerly wind, Chennai and its suburbs will receive light to moderate rain during the evening and night hours for the next 48 hours. According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning likely in Chennai and it’s suburbs during the evening or night.
“The next couple of days look good for thunderstorms over the leeward areas of Tamil Nadu before monsoon 2024 picks up for an active phase. Late evening / night rains likely around parts of North Tamil Nadu including Chennai and suburbs until Sunday,” the weather department predicted.

Chennai and its suburbs will remain partly cloudy for the next 48 hours. Also, maximum temperature in Chennai will be 35-36 degree Celsius and minimum temperature will be 27 degree Celsius. Also, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are likely to receive moderate rain for 7 days, the Meteorological Department has informed.
