Chennai: A 55-year-old who worked as a security personnel at the Avadi Air Force in Chennai allegedly shot himself to death while on sentry duty at the Air Force Station in the wee hours of Wednesday, July 24.
The incident occured around 4 am
The deceased identified as Kalidas, from Muthapudupet, a native of Mayiladuthurai district, worked as a ‘Naik’, a security personnel at the Avadi Air Force. His wife is Jeevashree. The couple has a daughter and a son. Kalidas had been employed in Air Force Tower number 8 for the past two days. In the early morning around 4 am, when he was at work, he used a handgun and shot himself three times in the throat and fell unconscious in a pool of blood, he was declared dead later.

According to fellow mates in the camp, he was working as a security guard in the 8th Tower of the Air Force Training Center as usual. Suddenly a gunshot was heard. After this, when his fellow soldiers came to see, Kalidas died on the spot in a flood of blood with 3 bullets in his throat.
Mutha Pudupet police were informed about the incident. Police rushed to the spot and recovered Kalidas’ body and sent it to the government hospital for post-mortem. The police have registered a case and are investigating the suicide.
