Climate activist group Futura Vegetal vandalise Lionel Messi’s illegal Ibiza mansion :WATCH
New Delhi: Lionel Messi’s Ibiza mansion got hit by climate activists from Futuro Vegetal. The group broke into his property earlier this week, splashing red and black paint all over it and posting photos on social media. In the pictures, two activists held a banner saying, “Help the planet, eat the rich, abolish the police.” They wanted to protest against how much the wealthy contribute to the climate crisis.

Futuro Vegetal explained why they did it. They called Messi’s mansion an illegal construction that cost an “exorbitant” €11 million. They pointed out that the ongoing heatwave in the Balearic Islands has caused several deaths. They argued that the richest 1% cause as much carbon emissions as the poorest two-thirds of people. They believe this happens because of government policies that support an economic system hurting the planet and increasing social inequality.

Messi bought the place in 2022 and often visits Ibiza with his family. But he hasn’t said anything about the break-in yet. This incident happened while he was taking a break after helping Argentina win the Copa America. He’s also recovering from an ankle injury he got in the final match.

Inter Miami, Messi’s current team, is at the top of the Eastern Conference in MLS. They’re getting ready for a Leagues Cup match against Toronto FC in the Round of 32 this week. Despite their strong position in the league, Inter Miami recently lost 2-1 to Tigres, which shows they’ve got some challenges ahead.

Futuro Vegetal has done similar protests before. Last summer, they targeted other luxury spots in Ibiza, like the Pacha discotheque and Blue Marlin beach club. They also attacked a private jet, a Lamborghini, and a mega-yacht owned by a billionaire heiress.

The activists believe the current economic and social systems favour the rich while harming the planet and vulnerable people. They’re calling for big changes to fix these inequalities and tackle the climate crisis.

Messi’s vandalised mansion is making headlines. It’s raising questions about the responsibilities of public figures and the environmental impact of their lifestyles. Messi’s response to this could shape how people talk about climate change and social justice.

For now, Messi and Inter Miami are focusing on their upcoming matches and his recovery. Fans can’t wait to see him back in action.
