New Delhi: Haryana youngster Yashwardhan Dalal wreaked havoc in the ongoing Colonel CK Nayudu Trophy (U-23) match against Mumbai. On Day 2 of the third-round match between Haryana and Mumbai, the young opener slammed quadruple century at the Gurugram Cricket Ground (SRNCC) in Sultanpur.
After Haryana were invited to bat first against Mumbai, Yashwardhan was promoted to open the innings along with Arsh Ranga. He batted at No.3 in the first couple of matches against Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand, adding 94 runs in three innings.
The new opening pair dominated against the young Mumbai bowling attack, adding 410 runs for the first wicket before Arsh was dismissed for 151 in the 98th over by Atharva Bhosale. Although other Haryana batters didn’t made vital contributions, leading to wickets tumbling, Yashwardhan hold firm to his crease and carried on the wreckage against the insipid Mumbai bowling unit.
He belted 46 fours and 12 sixes from his willow to remain unbeaten on 426 runs at the end of the second day. The blitzkrieg helped Haryana U-23 leave the day with a mammoth total of 732 for 8 with no declaration of the innings being made. This means Yashwardhan is likely to add more to his already colossal knock when the match resumes on the third day (Sunday, November 10).
Haryana captain Sarvesh Rohilla’s 48 off 59 balls looked mere contribution after the openers raised the bar very high with flamboyance. Atharva Bhosale’s 5 for 135 was the only positive signs seen from the Mumbai camp.
Yashwardhan Dalal known to play big knocks
Yashwardhan Dalal isn’t strange to playing such knocks as he has piled ample of runs in the age-group cricket with monumental hundreds. During an U-16 league match in December 2021, the Jhajjar-born batter scored 237 to propel Haryana Cricket Academy to 452 for 5 in 40 overs. His team comfortably won by 368 runs in that game played at the Royale Cricket Ground.
Mumbai will have to ensure they pick his wicket at the earliest on Day 3 or avoid him from taking strike to control the flow of runs.
