Congress strongman Muralidharan sets his eyes for 2026 assembly polls after Thrissur setback

Thiruvananthapuram: K Muralidharan has decided not to bow down and keep away from electoral politics after the shocking loss in Thrissur. ‘Leaders’ son is looking for the ‘big posts’ in 2026 assembly elections, the reason why he has decided to concentrate in his political home ground – Vattiyoorkavu, the assembly segment that has always stood strongly behind him.

When contacted by TV9, Muralidharan said that, ‘I will stand by my party and will decide as per their wishes’. He further did not wish to comment further on his future plans.

However, sources close to Muralidharan has revealed that he is planning to concentrate in Vattiyoorkavu, the constituency where he won for two consecutive times before contesting from Vadakara constituency in 2014 and being elected to the Loksabha.

“Muralidharan has a strong vote base and support in and Thiruvananthapuram. After the loss in Thrissur, he has decided to concentrate fully in Vattiyoorkavu and is looking for either a senior portfolio once the Congress comes to power”, said a close accomplice of K Muralidharan in Thiruvananthapuram who spoke to TV9 under conditions of anonymity.

Muralidharan while speaking to media said he is working to strengthen the party in the constituency.

“My primary concern is to strengthen the party again and to maintain old ties, my absence has caused decline in the party’s presence in the area,” Muralidharan stressed.

He also did a post-mortem of his defeat in Thrissur and blamed it on Christian votes shifting to the BJP. Even though his colleagues in the party including KPCC president tried to placate him and advised him to contest in the upcoming by polls, Muralidharan has categorically said he will not contest in the upcoming by-elections.

There are speculations that Muralidharan might contest in the Nemom or Vattiyoorkavu assembly elections in 2026 state elections
