New Delhi: Indian cricketer Suryakumar Yadav on Thursday lauded the efforts of India A lower-order batters Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian after the duo resurrected their team against India D on Day 1 of the second round in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024.
India A were put in a precarious situation at 93 for 5 in the morning of the first day at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantpur. Walked in Shams Mulani, who was one of the seven changes made by India A after the rejig of Duleep Trophy squads of all four teams.
The Mumbai all-rounder played some classic strokes to keep India D bowlers at bay as he remained unbeaten on 88 at the end of the day’s play. Mulani was involved in a two crucial partnerships with wicketkeeper Kumar Kushagra (51-run partnership for sixth wicket) and state teammate Kotian (91-run partnership for seventh wicket).
Kotian was dismissed by Saurabh Kumar shortly after completing his half-century, ending the possibility of a 100-plus stand with Mulani. The efforts of Mulani and Kotian ensured India A held their innings by the day-end at 288 for 8.
Suryakumar, who isn’t strange of watching his fellow Mumbaikars bailing out their state teams in Ranji Trophy in a similar fashion, called the pair as crisis men for India A.
“Shams mulani and Tanush kotian. So so proud of you both. Crisis men for Mumbai and now for INDA in the Duleep trophy. Enjoy the journey bhai log,” Suryakumar wrote on his X handle.
