New Delhi: Debutant spinner Vaishnavi Sharma bagged a sensational hat-trick as India crushed Malaysia by 10 wickets in the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The left-arm spinner (5/5) recorded the best-ever figure in the history of the U19 Women’s World Cup as India cantered to their second successive victory in the tournament.
Sharma became the first Indian bowler to pick up a hat-trick in the tournament after dismissing Nur Ain Binti Roslan, Nur Isma Dania and Siti Nazwah in the 14th over.
Courtesy of Sharma and a superb spell by Ayushi Shukla (3/8) India bundled Malaysia out for a paltry 31 in 14.3 overs.
In reply, India took only 2.5 overs to chase down the target in 2.5 overs, reaching 32 for no loss. G Trisha top-scored with an unbeaten 27 off 12 balls with the help of five fours.
India claimed the top spot in Group A with four points, the same as Sri Lanka but the former has a far better Net Run Rate of +9.1 to Lanka’s +5.5.
“Dream debut”
It was a dream debut for Sharma, who found a lot of help from the pitch, which offered appreciable turn and bounce. She used the conditions perfectly to her advantage and spun the web around Malaysian batters, who had no answers to her guile.
Sharma achieved the remarkable feat in the 14th over and triggered a major collapse as Malaysia stumbled from 24 for six to 30 for nine.

“This was a dream debut to get a hat-trick and five-wicket haul. My journey has had its ups and downs.
“I look up to Radha Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja. I had visualised how to get wickets here last night,” said Vaishnavi after the match.
India, remarkably, bowled 10 wides and aided in Malaysia’s score to cross the 30-run mark.
India next face Sri Lanka in a mouthwatering top-of-the-table clash on January 23, Thursday.
