Paris: The Indian embassy in France and the principality of Monaco on Thursday stated that the famous French store, Galeries Lafayette in Hausmann, Paris has started accepting payments via unified payments interface (UPI), the peer-to-peer and peer-to-business payment technology developed by the National Payment Corp of India.

The Indian embassy in a social media post stated that India’s Ambassador to France and the principality of Monaco launched UPI functionality at Galeries Lafayette’s store in Paris. UPI was launched in France in January 2024 at the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

NPCI’s global arm NIPL inked an agreement with Network International for UPI functionality at its POS terminals in the UAE. This is expected to enable seamless payments for NRIs and Indian travellers in Dubai Mall and the Mall of Emirates. The agreement enables UPI payments at 2 lakh POS terminals covering over 60,000 merchants, NPCI said in a post on X.
NIPL has partnered with Network International to enable the acceptance of UPI payments at its POS terminals in the UAE, ensuring seamless transactions for Indian tourists and NRIs at top spots like Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates.

UPI in Singapore
UPI was first launched internationally in Singapore back in 2018. In a partnership between NPCI and Singapore’s MAS, an agreement was inked to allow cross-functionality between UPI and Singapore’s PayNow app.
