New Delhi: It’s unfair to compare cricketers across generations, feels Kapil Dev, while asking not to draw parallels between him and India’s current pace spearhead and requesting time to given to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to decide on their future in Test cricket.

In India’s 1-3 Border-Gavaskar series loss, Bumrah has broken Kapil’s record of most wickets by an Indian in Australia.

The 1983 ODI World Cup winning captain had claimes 51 wickets Down Under, which Bumrah eclipsed in the BGT, He now has 64 dismissals in 12 matches (23 innings) an average of 17.15.

Bumrah claimed 32 wickets in five matches to be adjudged the player of the series, in a display of some of the finest pace bowling by a touring pacer in Australia.

But a back injury prevented him from bowling in the second innings of the fifth and final Test in Sydney and has cast a doubt on his participation in the Champions Trophy that will begin on February 19.

“Please do not compare (me with Bumrah); you cannot compare one generation with another. The boys of today score 300 runs in a single day, which didn’t happen in our time. So, don’t compare,” Kapil said while speaking to reporters, as quoted by indiatoday.in.

‘Let Rohit, Kohli decide’

The legendary all-rounder also wants adequate space and time given to under pressure senior batting stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli after question marks were raised over their red-ball futures after prolonged form slump.

Kapil said the autonomy of players to choose their future must be maintained since thay have contribute so much to the national team. Rohit was dropped from the Sydney Test after managing only 31 runs in three matches of the series while Australia capitalised on Kohli’s long-standing weakness outside the off-stump.

“How can I comment on the judgement of others? I think the selectors would have though about it…So, if I say something it would be criticising them. I don’t want to criticise them. They are a group of people who must have planned and thought about that,” Kapil said.

“They are very big players. Let’s hope when they think it’s the right time to play, when they think it’s not, they will call it off,” he added.

In India’s 1-3 Border-Gavaskar series loss, Jasprit Bumrah broke Kapil Dev’s record of most wickets by an Indian in Australia.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
