New Delhi: In light of the growing pressure placed on professional football players, head coach Nuri Sahin of Borussia Dortmund stated on Friday that discussions about a player strike have to be taken very seriously. The midfielder for Manchester City, Rodri, stated earlier this week that players might be on the verge of going on strike because of their heavier workloads as a result of the FIFA Club World Cup and Champions League expansions, in addition to their greater commitments to their national teams.

Before Sunday’s Bundesliga match at VfB Stuttgart, Sahin, a former player for Dortmund, Real Madrid, and Liverpool, told the reporters that players are already talking about strikes, you know it’s five to twelve. For years, coaches like Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp have also lamented about it. However, nothing has altered. We must get concerned if individuals or organizations don’t care about it- Sahin further added a few more comments.

Sahin was pleased with his team’s performance, though, as they defeated Club Brugge 3-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday. All of the players are healthy for Sunday save for Giovanni Reyna, the midfielder, who strained his groin earlier in the month. While struggling Stuttgart have only managed one league win so far, while Dortmund have enjoyed a strong start to the season with two wins and a draw from their first three games. Dortmund lost to Stuttgart three times last season, including twice in the Bundesliga.
Nuri Sahin had some interesting things to say about the excessive workload that is being given to the players. Besides, he also claims that the fact that players are considering a strike is alarming.
