Dr Babar Azam? Pakistan star turns physio to help Shaheen Afridi heal from thumb pain

New Delhi: Star Pakistan batter Babar Azam was seen in a new role during the third One-Day International match against Australia at the Perth Stadium in Perth on Sunday. He tried his hand on the physio duties after teammate Shaheen Afridi was injured on the field.

During the 26th of the Australian innings, Shaheen bowled a short of length delivery to Sean Abbott. The batter pulled towards the deep mid-wicket for a single. While collecting the ball from the fielder, the ball bounced a bit and hit Shaheen on the edge of his left thumb. The left-arm pacer winced in pain for a moment before Babar volunteered to assist him.

Babar pulled Shaheen’s hurting thumb before the team’s official physio came to the spot to assess the situation. The physio applied pain-relief spray and the young pacer back to his position to complete the remaining over.

Shaheen Afridi leads Pakistan’s pace attack to reduce Australia in shambles

Shaheen Afridi picked up three wickets while conceding 32 runs. He claimed the wickets of Aaron Hardie, Abbott, and Lance Morris as Australia were bundled up for 140 after being asked to bat first. Naseem Shah (3 for 54) and Haris Rauf (2 for 24) ably backed Shaheen to orchestrate the collapse.

Pakistan chased the target in 26.5 overs with Saim Ayub (42) and Abdullah Shafique (37) started with an opening stand of 84 runs before Babar Azam (28*) and Mohammad Rizwan (30*) finished the proceedings in an unfazed manner.
