Duleep Trophy 2024 second round: India A beat India D, India B-India C end with draw

New Delhi: India A trounced India D by 186 runs on Sunday in their second match of the ongoing Duleep Trophy played at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantpur. Shams Mulani’s terrific all-round show helped India A to register its first win in the domestic curtain-raiser.

Mulani scored 89 in the first innings to propel India A to a decent score of 290 in the first innings. Despite Devdutt Padikkal’s gallant efforts with the bat (92), India D were bowled out for 183 courtesy of pacers Khaleel Ahmed (3 for 39) and Aaqib Khan’s (3 for 41) instrumental bowling.

India A opener Pratham Singh’s (122) maiden ton on Duleep Trophy debut complemented by Tilak Varma’s unbeaten century (111*) powered the team’s lead to 487.

Ricky Bhui’s daunting efforts to lead India D’s fightback went in vain. The Andhra batter made 113 off 195 balls with 14 fours and three sixes being fired from his willow. Meagre contributions from captain Shreyas Iyer (41) and Sanju Samson (40) didn’t help the side to push for the arduous target.

Mumbai duo of Tanush Kotian (4 for 73) and Mulani (3 for 117) ran through the India D batting order as they were bowled out for 301.

India B-India C settle for draw

India B held on India C in a drawn affair in their second match. The match started with the sparkling knock of Ishan Kishan (111 runs in 126 balls) before half-centuries from Baba Indrajith (78) and Manav Suthar (82) pushed India C to a mammoth 525.

India B captain Abhimanyu Easwaran responded with a determined ton (157) in alliance with fellow opener Narayan Jagadeesan (70). Barring the openers, there was no significant contribution from India B batters as India C pacer Anshul Kamboj snared eight wickets to help his side gain 193-run lead in the first innings.

India C were reduced to 128 for 4 before the bails were dropped on the surface to call it a draw. Anshul was awarded as Player of the Match for his breathtaking spell for India C.
