Duleep Trophy: Devdutt Padikkal makes gain in staggering List A batting average

New Delhi: Devdutt Padikkal impressed with a superb half-century in the ongoing Duleep Trophy match between  India A and India D at the Rural Development Trust Stadium, Anantapur. The Karnataka batter emerged as the lone warrior for India D, scoring 92 in the total team score of 183. The wickets kept falling at one end but Padikkal fought brilliantly to take his team near the 200-run mark.

Besides Padikkal, only three India D other batters – Yash Dube (14), Ricky Bhui (23) and Harshit Rana (31) reached double figures.

Skipper Shreyas Iyer failed to impress, getting out for a 7-ball duck.

Amidst a flurry of wickets, Padikkal, not only held one end but scored at a brisk pace to keep the scoreboard ticking. Padikkal’s 92-run knock came off 124 deliveries including 15 boundaries.

The southpaw tried his best to take India D’s total past the 200-run mark but ran out of partners at the other end. Despite his valiant knock, India D fell 107-un short of India A’s first innings total of 290.

Khaleel Ahmed and Aqib Khan were the chief destructors for India A, picking up three wickets apiece.

Padikkal’s knock, though, gave India D a fighting chance to make a comeback in the second essay.
