New Delhi: Newcaastle have done it! against all odds, they have managed to comfortably cruise past Arsenal, winning tonight’s game 2-0, and 4-0 on aggregate, to reach the finals of 2024/25 EFL Cup. Newcastle’s advantage over Arsenal in the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final at St. James’ Park was 1-0 (3-0 overall) going into halftime. Early into the game, Gordon quickly fired a pass in behind the defence after the ball broke to him just inside the Arsenal half. Isak drove towards goal after running onto it and shot into the net’s roof. Isak was in an offside position. Newcastle thought they had taken the lead early on, but the Swedish striker slipped into an offside position and the goal was ruled off.
However, soon after Newcastle did manage to take the lead after Isak carried towards the goal after being played in behind Arsenal’s defence. It cannoned off the post when he pulled the trigger from the edge of the box but Murphy was inside the box when it fell to him, and he did a fantastic job of shooting into the net to make it 1-0. Despite the Gunners’ dominance of the possession, Murphy’s leap in the area to score a rebound after Isak had hit the post gave Newcastle the lead.

A second half that brought further comfort
Just moments into the second half, Newcastle more or less booked their spot in the final of the EFL Cup, scoring early in the 52nd minute. With a careless pass from the Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, he attempted to find Rice, but Schar was there to win the challenge. Gordon received the ball inside the box and rolled it into the net to make it 2-0 and also adding the fourth to the overall aggregate. After that, the Gunners ran out of ideas, as the next real chance came late in the game when Rice delivered the corner in the 90th minute. Lewis-Skelly was in position to meet his dangerous cross, as he whipped it into the six-yard box, but he missed it from a few yards away.
Howe’s team managed to hold on and make it to the final. Meanwhile for the Gunners, they yet again crash out of the EFL Cup, despite coming this close. Tottenham and Liverpool will play each other in the final on Thursday, thus Newcastle will have to wait to find out who they will play.
