New Delhi: British tennis player Emma Raducanu has accepted the wildcard for next week’s Abu Dhabi Open and will be participating in a qualifying draw for the first time since her historic 2021 US Open victory. Raducanu was thrashed by Iga Swiatek in the Australian Open 2025 third round earlier in the month and this entry becomes a major moment in her career.

The Brit is without a coach after her former coach Nick Cavaday decided to step down and end the partnership after the first Grand Slam of the season due to health reasons. the 22-year-old Raducanu would be travelling with her fitness trainer Yutaka Nakamura for the Abu Dhabi Open. After the Australian Open setback, Raducanu had a terrible run at the Singapore Open going down in the first-round match earlier this week.

Expectations high from Raducanu in Abu Dhabi

Expectations would be high from Emma Raducanu at the upcoming Abu Dhabi qualifiers as the talented tennis player would be hoping to get back to the groove after recent disappointments. Four years ago in New York, Raducanu emerged victorious in three matches in qualifying and seven in the main draw without dropping a set to become the first qualifier in the history of the sport to win a Grand Slam title.

The nature of the historic achievement led to many wildcard invitations into the tournaments but every invitation did not become as successful as Raducanu’s. Meanwhile, the tennis player from Britain will be first in action on Saturday, when qualifying for the WTA 500 event begins. Currently ranked 56th in the world, the sensation athlete looks all geared up for the action beginning ending this week.

Apart from her, world number five Elena Rybakina, Australian Open semi-finalist Paula Badosa and Britain’s number one Katie Boulter are among some popular players to have secured the main draw entry at the Abu Dhabi Open.
