Emotional farewell for Adriano at Maracana as AI tribute honours late father

New Delhi: Adriano, the Brazilian footballer known as the ‘Emperor’ during his peak, officially retired from football on Sunday. The 42-year-old was given a heartfelt farewell at Flamengo, the club where his incredible yet turbulent journey began.

The testimonial match, held at the iconic Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, saw the ‘Flamengo Legends’ defeat the ‘Friends of Italy’ 4-3. Adriano, who scored for both sides, played alongside several Brazilian stars, including Romario and Julio Cesar. His son, Adrianinho, also joined him on the pitch, opening the scoring and creating a memorable moment for their family.

Me gusta esa palabra… pic.twitter.com/whfE2w0Rmg

Adriano was tipped to become one of football’s all-time greats. He won the Copa America in 2004 and the Confederations Cup in 2005. At Inter Milan, he lifted four Serie A titles and two Italian Cups.

But after his father’s death in 2004, Adriano’s career began to decline as he battled issues with weight and alcohol. Despite his struggles, his talent and charisma left an everlasting mark on football fans worldwide.

The most emotional part of the evening came when the match was paused after the break for a special message. AI recreated the voice of Adriano’s late father, who passed away in 2004, delivering a message to wish him happiness in retirement. Overwhelmed by emotion, Adriano hugged every player on the field and kissed the Flamengo badge as the crowd cheered.

Speaking about the tribute, Adriano said, “It’s a shame he couldn’t be here, but I know he’s happy with everything I learned from him.” He thanked his friends and fans, adding that their affection mattered more to him than anything else.

Adriano’s story is one of immense talent and unfulfilled potential, but his impact on the game remains undeniable. His farewell was a fitting goodbye for a player who, at his best, was one of the most feared strikers in world football.

Adriano bid an emotional farewell to football, marking the end of a journey filled with highs and challenges.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
