‘Never seen anyone like Bumrah’: Australia great on IND deputy’s bowling masterclass

New Delhi: Australian batting legend Allan Border is the latest addition to the long list of appreciators for India pace stalwart Jasprit Bumrah. Border believes there’s little difference between West Indies legend Malcolm Marshall and Bumrah, also stating that he has never seen “anyone like him” in his life. In the ongoing third Test in Brisbane, Bumrah shone with a six-wicket haul for 76 runs in Australia’s first innings.

He has been one of the most consistent bowlers in the five-Test series against Australia, having claimed 18 wickets so far. He has also become only the second Indian, after Kapil Dev, to take 50 Test wickets on Australian soil.

“I can’t properly compare him to Marshall because I never faced Bumrah but just watching him there is not much (between them). Bumrah is remarkable. He rarely bowls a spell without taking a wicket. He is different,” Border spoke to the News Corp, as quoted by PTI.

“Because of his action, he lets the ball go later. And he smiles all the time. He can beat a batsman three times in a row and smile each time. I have never seen anyone like him,” the 69-year-old added.

Bumrah’s magic for Team India

Bumrah has been an all-format bowler for Team India for quite some time now. In the first Test that was played in Perth, he led the Men in Blue to a 295-run win, taking five for 30 in a memorable first innings and three for 42 in the second essay. Bumrah has now registered 10 five-wicket hauls outside Asia, surpassing Kapil Dev’s record of nine. The Ahmedabad boy has three fifers in Australia, three in South Africa, and two each in England and the West Indies.

Bumrah’s bowling average in Australia is currently at 17.82 (minimum 20 wickets), which statistically makes him the best visiting bowler in more than the last 100 years. He has eclipsed the likes of Richard Hadlee (77 wickets at 17.83 runs per wicket), Curtly Ambrose (78 wickets at 19.79 in Australia), and Michael Holding (63 at 24.22).
