New Delhi: Bramley-Moore Dock in Vauxhall or Everton Stadium at Vauxhall, Liverpool opened its door for the first time to fans. It is a departure from Goodison Stadium, where Everton are tenants since 1892. 10,000 Toffees fans, selected via a ballot system, witnessed the stadium for a friendly game between Everton and Wigan’s U-18 teams.

The stadium took four years to complete and cost approximately £750-£800m. Everton will move into the stadium before the start of the 2025-26 season. The stadium was a commercial dock that still had twelve unexploded anti-aircraft shells from the Second World War when Everton took possession in July 2021, during the early parts of Moshiri’s ownership. It took 480,000 cubic meters of sand dredged from the Irish Sea.

The general reaction to the stadium was magnificent, with everyone noting the size of the stadium as a major difference. The old stadium only had a capacity of 39,572 whereas the Everton Stadium can host more than 52,888 people. However, the stadium isn’t just for everyone’s envy but it is estimated that the stadium could be contributing 1.3b to the local economy. Further, it is estimated to attract 1.4 million visitors to Liverpool every year and create 15,000 jobs

Only the South Stand, which can seat 14,000 was open for the game which Everton lost 2-1. It will most likely feature as the home end when Everton finally moves into the venue next season. The stand has a brilliant view without obstruction and every facility that a football fan can ask for in a match. The two ends of the stadium feature giant TV screens. It is the most futuristic stadium by the banks of River Mersey.

The Wigan visit is one of the three test events needed for Everton to obtain a licence and safety certificate to operate next season. All four stands will be open and functional for the upcoming two events first at a capacity of 25,000 and then at near to full capacity.

Everton had to go through two failed stadium attempts at King’s Dock and Kirkby and a proposal at Walton Hall Park that never went through. Despite being so futuristic, it still has the echoes of its heritage with the stadium having the original dock walls, the railway tracks that transported coal to the steamship as well as the Grade II-listed hydraulic tower that is part of the 17,000 capacity outdoor plaza. To preserve and restore the Bramley-Moore, it has cost £55m.

The game saw Wigan’s Harrison Rimmer, a Liverpool fan, break the deadlock and even gesture to the hosts about the Reds’ six championship. Cole Simms made the 2-0 and Everton salvaged a goal through Ray Roberts.

Everton have unveiled their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock in Vauxhall, Liverpool to 10,000 Toffees fans, with the Merseyside club’s tenure at Goodison coming to an end in the summer.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
