Nellore: Former YSRCP MLA from Macherla, Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy, was arrested on Wednesday evening after Andhra Pradesh High Court denied him anticipatory bail in the EVM destruction case.
The High Court, which heard four cases against Reddy, opined that there were no valid grounds to grant bail and that he has 11 cases registered against him. The court also opined that granting him bail would send the wrong signal to the public and investigation would be adversely affected.
The four cases include EVM destruction, attack on a police inspector at Karampudi police station on May 14, burning a vehicle and punching a local TDP worker
He was arrested when he came to the Narsaraopet Police Station to register his daily presence at the SP’s office, as required by the court.
After the arrest, he was taken to Narasaraopet government main area hospital for medical tests and then produced him before Macherla Magistrate, who sentenced him to 14-day remand. He was then taken to Nellore Central Jail.
On May 13, polling day, the former MLA barged into polling station number 202 in the constituency and smashed an EVM to the floor and also allegedly had an altercation with “adversaries” at the polling station.
When the TDP polling agent questioned Reddy, he allegedly threatened him and later instigated his followers against him, following which they attacked the agent with sticks, rods and knives brought in their vehicles.
The former YCP MLA is sent to 14-day remand and is lodged in Nellore Central Jail for attack on Karampudi CI Narayana Swamy and TDP’s Namburi Seshagiri Rao. Andhra Pradesh States News India: Top News India, States News, States News Headlines, Online State News India, State Politics news
