Rajasthan Police has registered an FIR against unknown people in connection with the interview given by gangster Lawrence Bishnoi to a private channel last year. He was reportedly inside Jaipur Central Jail at the time of the interview.
This information was given by Director General of Police Utkal Ranjan Sahu.
Recently, the FIR was registered in Jaipur on the instructions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. This happened when the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Punjab Police claimed that Bishnoi was in jail when the interview was taken.
Sahu said, ‘Two interviews were telecast on March 14 and March 16 last year. The SIT found that one of the two interviews was recorded from Jaipur Central Jail. During this time Bishnoi was in jail in a firing case. We have lodged an FIR.
The High Court has asked the police to submit a copy of the SIT report along with all the evidence on Friday.
Bishnoi was brought to Jaipur from Punjab’s Bathinda jail on a production warrant on February 15 last year for questioning in an extortion case. He was sent to judicial custody in Jaipur jail on March 3, 2023 and was taken to Bathinda on March 4.
After the interview was aired, the then Jaipur Police Commissioner Anand Shrivastava had claimed that Bishnoi did not give any interview while he was in Jaipur.
On the other hand, Assistant Police Commissioner (Gandhi Nagar) Narayan Kumar Bajia had said that the matter will be investigated and further action will be taken based on the facts revealed during the investigation.
On the other hand, Deputy Police Commissioner- Jaipur (East) Tejaswini Gautam said that the SIT of Punjab Police found that Bishnoi was in Jaipur jail at the time of the interview. Jaipur Central Jail comes under the jurisdiction of Lalkothi police station and hence the case was registered here.
