Hyderabad: After cracking down on restaurants in recent weeks, food safety officials turned their focus on to PGs, hostels and home stays in the city.
It included Sri Lakshmi PG Hostel in Kavuri Hills, VG homestay in Madhapur, Narayana Society, Sy No. 11/20, Madhapur, Narayana Medical Academy, Madhapur, as per the official statement.
The kitchen at Sri Lakshmi PG Hostel was found to be operating without FSSAI license while the vegetables (cauliflower and ladies finger) were found to be infested with pests. Dosa pan was found to be rusted and work area was reportedly unhygienic. Rice and pulses were stored along with mattresses.
A spot test was done for water, tomato sauce in the ‘food safety on wheels’ vehicle and parameters were found to be in acceptable range. Lose chilli powder and Bengal gram samples were lifted on suspicion of adulteration.
Similar concerns were raised at VG Homestay while use of food colours were also observed. Raw materials and vegetables were found in unsanitary conditions and refrigerator was unhygienic.
In Narayana society, expired white gravy and chopp masala was found while no FOSTAC supervisor was appointed among the staff. Multiple hygiene issues were also identified with high chances of contamination, the officials said.
Over the last month, food safety officials have urged commercial food establishments to uphold safety norms and prioritise the health of the customers.
