New Delhi: Former Cardiff City defender Sol Bamba has passed away at the age of 39. Bamba was working as a technical director with the Turkish club Adanaspor, which released an official statement on Saturday about the former Ivory Coast defender’s demise. In their statement, Adanaspor mentioned that the former Middlesbrough fell ill before the club’s game and was admitted to a hospital but ultimately passed away.

Bamba started his career with Paris Saint-Germain and went on to play for Cardiff City, Leicester City, and Leeds United. He appeared for Italian side Palermo and Scottish clubs Dunfermline Athletic and Hibernian. For Ivory Coast, he played 46 games and scored one goal. In January 2023, Bamba retired from football and shifted to coaching. He served as assistant manager at Cardiff before reaching Turkey for his recent assignment.
