New Delhi: Three out of the four Indians advanced to their respective men’s doubles second round at the French Open 2025 on Wednesday. Rohan Bopanna, N. Sriram Balaji, and Yuki Bhambri all registered victories with their partners in the opening round of the men’s doubles, but Rithvik Bollipalli crashed out of the tournament with a tame straight-set defeat.

All three pairs endured contrasting wins as Bopanna and his Czech partner Adam Pavlasek battled past Americans Robert Cash and JJ Tracy 7-6(8), 5-7, 6-1 to head into the next round late on Wednesday. The duo notably converted four break points and won 68% of their first-serve points in what was a hard-fought and gruelling encounter, which lasted two hours and 11 minutes.

Later in the men’s doubles event, Balaji and his Mexican partner Miguel Reyes-Varela edged past Argentina’s Camilo Ugo Carabelli and China’s Yunchaokete Bu 6-2, 6-1 in just 51 minutes. The duo of Indo-Mexican dominated from start to finish as they finished four aces and won 81% of first-serve points, converting four of 10 break-point opportunities. They also earned nearly half (49%) of the receiving points with their aggressive returns.

With Balaji’s victory, which came at last during what was an eventful day for India, three Indians have now made it to the round of 32 in the men’s doubles at the Roland Garros. Earlier in the day, Yuki Bhambri and American Robert Galloway had edged past Robin Haase of the Netherlands and Germany’s Hendrik Jebens, securing a hard-fought 6-3, 6-7(8), 6-3 victory in a fast-paced, high-quality first-round match.

Meanwhile, Bollipalli, who was the first Indian to take the clay court of the Roland Garros this season, went down with his Colombian partner Nicolas Barrientos 6-0, 6-2 to Canada’s Gabriel Diallo and Briton Jacob Fearnley, who dominated the contest and registered victory in just 56 minutes.
