New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which currently stands suspended for a week, has already passed nearly three days of intense speculations and rumours about its restart. Amid the ongoing border tensions between India and Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had decided to suspend the T20 league with immediate effect, but bracketed the timeline just for a week.
This indeed means that the BCCI is hopeful of the situation getting calm in the next few days, something that was seen for a few hours on Saturday when the two nations announced a mutual ceasefire, only to be violated by Pakistan again. The situation has returned to what it was before, with drones and missile attacks being carried out by the defense forces of the two nations against each other.
That little period of ceasefire agreement seemed to have ignited a sudden interest in the Indian cricket fraternity as the BCCI looked to be in some action concerning the future of IPL 2025. It is understood that the BCCI will have to make an announcement anyhow after a week of IPL 2025 suspension gets completed, and the board is currently undertaking all kinds of high-level meetings they desperately need with the respected government authorities.
“The BCCI is closely monitoring the evolving situation and developments, and will take a call on IPL resumption after consulting all stakeholders of IPL and the concerned government authorities,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz, only hours after the ceasefire agreement was reached.
“In the next 48 hours, we will begin consultations with the franchises, broadcasters, sponsors, and the state associations slated to host the remaining matches before crystallizing a decision on the league’s resumption,” he added. It is currently a critical time anyway to restart the cash-rich league, and the BCCI secy is well aware of the fact that they require a nod from the Indian government.
“Given the importance of IPL at this juncture, it will also be prudent and necessary to take the nod of the Government of India before finalising the time for its restart. BCCI will duly announce the date of IPL restart once the whole process is over in due course of time,” Saikia perceived.
Rajeev Shukla on IPL 2025’s resumption
Meanwhile, as per a PTI report, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla on Saturday said that the board’s top brass and the IPL Governing Council will discuss the highly-awaited schedule for the remaining games of the suspended IPL 2025 on Sunday. Shukla’s comments came after the news of an immediate India-Pakistan ceasefire broke out.
The tournament was suspended with 16 matches remaining as the India-Pakistan border tensions grew vehemently, putting the safety of players, crew, and all the stakeholders at risk. The chain of events started with the Pahalgam terror attack last month and India’s subsequent Operation Sindoor on Pakistan terror camps, in retaliation early Wednesday.
“The war has stopped. In the new situation, BCCI office bearers, officials, and IPL Governing Council, will discuss the matter tomorrow (Sunday) and take a call. We will see which can be the best schedule to complete the tournament,” Shukla told PTI Videos. Earlier, there were reports of the league moving to the southern Indian cities of Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, but Shukla said that this option was feasible during an ongoing military stand-off.
“That was an option when war was going on. There are many options that have been discussed. The ceasefire has just been announced, give some time to us, we will discuss and then only a decision will be taken,” Shukla added.
Nearly three days have passed of the IPL 2025 suspension and all eyes are on the BCCI to release a new schedule for the remainder of the tournament, restarting it possibly within a week. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
