New Delhi: England Women wicketkeeper Amy Jones has announced her engagement with her long-time Australian girlfriend and cricketer Piepa Cleary. An old saying of love having no language and transcending all boundaries has come true for the gay couple. It is well known that England and Australia share a traditional rivalry in the game but… for Amy and Piepa, the rivalry has been trumped by love and romance as both exchanged rings in an intimate ceremony on Monday.
Amy took to her Instagram account and made the happy announcement of being engaged with Piepa. She shared a picture of them both, holding glasses filled with champagne and embracing each other for the camera. She captioned the post – “Cheers to forever.” In the picture, Cleary can also be seen wearing the massive diamond ring on her finger as both celebrate their engagement.
The picture has been receiving love from all around as fans are congratulating the couple and showering them with good luck for their journey as partners ahead. Apart from the congratulatory wishes, fans hilariously commented on both the cricketers putting aside cricket’s traditional rivalry. While some commented that it would be the start of a new Ashes series, some felt sad that they wouldn’t enjoy the age-old rivalry as much as they did earlier.
The couple have been dating for quite some time and got into a long-distance relationship due to their different nationalities. However, in 2021, Cleary relocated to England and started playing for the team North West Thunder. Jones and Cleary now reside together in Loughborough, Leicestershire.
