New Delhi: Swashbuckling India batter Shikhar Dhawan called time on his international and domestic career on Saturday and is all set to begin the second innings of his life. He was always a busy man during his prime in the Indian cricket team, giving it all for the national duty and now that he has retired, things won’t change much for his engagements and his daily schedule.
38-year-old Dhawan has invested in multiple businesses and is already excited about the future as conveyed by him in the heartwarming video message that he shared to announce his retirement. Taking to his social media handles, Dhawan posted the video along with the caption – “As I close this chapter of my cricketing journey, I carry with me countless memories and gratitude. Thank you for the love and support! Jai Hind!”

He thanked his childhood coaches and his fans for providing him continuous support through thick and thin and also highlighted that he won’t be taking any guilt with him about not getting to represent India anymore but would rather be happy with the fact that he played for India. Dhawan’s international cricketing career has been a legacy for Team India, specially in the white-ball format where Dhawan excelled like no one else.
Dhawan’s retirement plans
Getting relieved of the national duty, Dhawan is all set to focus on his business ventures with his sports company “DaOne Sports” which is a premier training and sports education group. It aims “to fortify grassroots training and to carve pathways for athletes and coaches alike.” Dhawan also co-owns the Delhi Premier League team, South Delhi Superstars, which is taking part in the ongoing inaugural season of the tournament.
The Delhi boy will continue to take significant steps in the fitness and lifestyle industries. He has been invested in a chain of fitness centers, a sports equipment brand, and a wellness brand that promotes healthy living. Other than that, he owns a restaurant “Flying Catch Sports Restaurant” in Dubai.
Shikhar Dhawan records
Having made his international debut back in 2010, Dhawan played 34 Tests, 167 ODIs, and 68 T20Is for India and accumulated 10,867 runs across formats, hitting 24 hundred and 55 fifties.
He was the highest run-scorer for India in the Champions Trophy 2013, also bagging the Player of the Tournament award. He became the first batter to hit back-to-back centuries in IPL and also holds the record for hitting most fours in IPL. He has also notably captained both Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad simultaneously – an opportunity that no other player has got so far.
Now that Shikhar Dhawan has retired from all forms of cricket, he will have ample of time to spare on his personal well being and his notable business ventures, which he will be focusing upon full time.
