‘Life moves on’: Kagiso Rabada recalls doping ban, acknowledges mistake after fiery show in WTC final

New Delhi: South Africa speedster Kagiso Rabada talked about his recent doping ban, returning from which, he featured for South Africa in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final against Australia. On the opening day of the summit clash, Rabada delivered a marvellous performance as he picked up a five-wicket haul, registering figures of 5/51 in 15.4 overs to help the Proteas bundle out Australia for 212 after they were put in to bat first.

As the day concluded, the South African pacer was asked if he had any extra motivation to do well following his recent ban for recreational drug use. He acknowledged that while it wasn’t the best moment of his career, he always gives his best while playing for his country and said that there was no need for him to try and do something extraordinary.

“Yeah, obviously it wasn’t my best moment, as I’ve alluded to. Now, life moves on. I think every game that I play for South Africa, I try to do my best. I didn’t try to give any more or any less effort than I usually do in all the games that I play for South Africa. So that’s all I tried to do today,” Rabada said in the press conference after the end of the first day’s play.

During his time at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Rabada only played two games for the Gujarat Titans (GT) before he flew back home, citing personal reasons. But in a shocking twist, after a few days, the pacer revealed that he was serving a one-month ban following a reported use of cocaine.

The test was conducted when Rabada was playing in the SA20 for MI Cape Town, and its report showed positive signs of drug usage. The report from Club Cricket SA states that Rabada returned from India after the suspension was imposed on him and said that the pacer honoured it and accepted responsibility for the doping offence.
