New Delhi: Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir broke his silence on reports of leaked dressing room conversations during the five-match Test series against Australia and said that they were “just reports and not the truth”.
Speaking on the eve of the last Test in Sydney in the press conference, Gambhir dismissed all the reports of unrest in the dressing room after losing the Melbourne Test and said that he had some honest words with his players.
“There were some honest words, that is what I can say. Honesty is very important. Honesty is extremely important if you want to go and achieve great things” Gambhir said in the press conference.
The head coach further stressed the importance of building unity and teamwork in the squad and said that it’s the team first ideology that matters. He also said that debates between a player and a coach should stay between them and any conversation in the dressing room should stay in the dressing room.
“There is only one tendency and there is only one discussion – it’s the team first ideology that matters. You need to play what the team needs. You can still play your natural game in a team sport – but if the team needs you – you need to play in a certain way” he added.
‘Extremely confident of winning the Sydney Test’: India coach Gautam Gambhir
The Indian head coach further said that there has been only one conversation in the dressing room and it is about winning the last Test and apart from that there is no other conversation. He also said that he is extremely confident of winning the Sydney Test.
“Extremely, extremely confident. We have got the skillset, we have got the individuals, confidence and everything in the dressing room to win a Test match here. Not only here, but probably go on to do some unbelievable things in the future as well. So, extremely confident” Gambhir said.
The fifth and final Test of the series will start on January 3 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). The Men in Blue will be able to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy if they manage to win the fifth Test and draw the series at 2-2.
