New Delhi: India’s star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant surprised fans by bowling the final over in the inaugral season of the Delhi Premier League. Pant is known for his wicket-keeping and explosive batting and has never bowled in the international matches.
South Delhi Superstarz needed just one run and Pant’s over didn’t hold much importance in terms of match outcome. However, he took matters into his own hands as he rolled his arms over. Many Indian batters have bowled in the Sri Lanka series after Gautam Gambhir took over as the head coach and the fans were quick to point out that.
The inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League started with the glitzy opening ceremony at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Bollywood rapper Badshah and actress Sonam Bajwa performed in the ceremony.
The ceremony was attended by the top management of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), franchise owners, players, and staff from all participating men’s and women’s teams.
The DDCA also honoured Delhi cricketers Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant for their contributions in India’s campaign during the T20 World Cup.
