New Delhi: Shubman Gill pulled off a stunning running catch off the bowling of Varun Chakravarthy to get rid of the dangerous Travis Head in India’s Champions Trophy 2025 semifinal clash against Australia on Tuesday. Head’s innings seemed like another one of his dangerous knocks, where he survived on couple of occasions earlier and then built up on the opportunity to punish the Men in Blue but it didn’t happen this time as India were successful in getting rid of the dangerous batter.

Chakravarthy, who was brought in as a change bowler in the ninth over, utilised the opportunity to the fullest dismissing Head (39 off 33) on the second ball of his first over. It was a tossed up delivery on the off and middle stump which Head attempted to loft with an aim to clear the boundary but Gill did a fabulous work on the long off boundary as he completed a fine running catch.

India on top after Head’s dismissal

After Mohammed Shami gave India the first breakthrough with the wicket of Cooper Connolly (0), India’s focus was on to remove Head who seemed to be in a nice touch. It was an early reprieve for the Australian batter in first over bowled by Shami where a leading edge came straight to the bowler who attempted to catch it but failed to do so.

In the fourth over bowled by Hardik Pandya, Head survived another time as an attempted quick single almost resulted in a run out but he narrowly survived. Head survived on another occasion where an inside edge almost resulted in his dismissal but he survived another time. Meanwhile, after winning the toss and opting to bat first, Australia tried to step up the things but India did well in containing the Kangaroos inside the powerplay.
