New Delhi: Australian all-rounders were in demand on Day 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Sunday, November 24. Both Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis were sold to Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the auction while Mitchell Marsh was bought by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
Punjab Kings went all out for Stoinis as they beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the bidding war to sign the Australian pace all-rounder for Rs 11 crore. PBKS didn’t stop there as they went to fend off competition from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to buy another former player – Glenn Maxwell for Rs 4.20 crore.
Both Stoinis and Maxwell have previously been part of the Punjab Kings in the IPL. While Stonis was part of the Lucknow Super Giants last season, Maxwell played for RCB in IPL 2024. Maxwell has so far played 134 matches in his IPL career and has 2771 runs to his name at a strike rate of 156.73, including 18 fifties. Maxwell has also picked up 37 wickets in his IPL career so far.
Meanwhile, Stoinis has played 96 matches in his IPL career and has scored 1866 runs and taken 43 wickets. Both all-rounders were expected to be in demand at the IPL 2025 mega auction and interestingly headed to the same team after PBKS won the bidding war for both of them.
Mitchell Marsh steal for LSG, Liam Livingstone heads to RCB
Marsh turned out to be a steal deal for Lucknow Super Giants, who managed to get him for a sum of Rs 3.40 crore. Marsh was released by the Delhi Capitals ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction and his former franchise decided not to use the RTM option for him. Marsh has so far played 37 matches in his IPL career and has 666 runs and 37 wickets to his name.
England big-hitter Liam Livingstone was sold to RCB for a sum of Rs 8.75 crore. After letting go of the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis, RCB spent decent money on Livingstone to bolster their middle order ahead of the new season. Livingstone has 939 runs to his name in 39 matches in his IPL career at an impressive strike rate of 162.46, including six half-centuries.
