New Delhi: After a dream competitive cricket comeback in the Ranji Trophy 2024, star pacer Mohammed Shami could very well earn a ticket to Australia for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The first Test match between India and Australia will begin on November 22 in Perth and Shami, who was left out of the squad, could be flown to Australia for the crucial Test series.
On Thursday, the ace pacer scalped four wickets in the Ranji Group C match between Bengal and Madhya Pradesh, denting MP’s innings completely. While the first day for the prolific pacer ended quietly as he went wicketless, on the next day, Shami proved his might announcing his return in an emphatic manner.
Indian team to get Shami boost
The Indian team, which is experiencing turbulence currently, could get a massive boost in form of Shami, who’s undoubtedly among the best they have got. According to report published in news agency PTI, the national selection committee could have a look at how his body reacts in the next innings of the game and assess the situation at the end of the encounter being played at the Holkar stadium in Indore.
If he comes out pain-free and injury-free after the Ranji Trophy match, it is assured that he will join forces with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and others for the second Test match at Adelaide. The report also mentions that if Shami stays well all these days, he could participate in the two-day day/night practice game against Prime Minister’s XI, which starts on November 30.
More than anything else like his performance and all, the selection committee will look at his health and fitness as he was out of action for almost an year after the ODI World Cup 2023. Shami last played the ODI WC final against Australia and following it, he had to go in for a ankle surgery.
