New Delhi: Wicketkeeper batter Sanju Samson silenced his critics with a brilliant century in the final round of the ongoing Duleep Trophy while playing for India D against India B at the Rural Development Trust Stadium B in Anantapur. On Friday, Samson continued his blazing first-class knock and registered a maiden Duleep Trophy ton which is also his 11th century in first-class cricket.
Samson took 101 balls, smashing 12 fours and three sixes to score 106 runs as the no. 6 batter for his side. The top score was followed by half-centurions Devdutt Padikkal (50), Srikar Bharat (52), and Ricky Bhui (56), on the back of whom India D put up 349 in the first innings. The century by Samson garnered him much praise from cricket pundits and his fans alike who said that Samson has shut out the critics and has established why he can’t be ignored in red-ball cricket.
Nonetheless, it seems even Samson enjoyed his songful knock, silently making a statement and also a strong case for his India Test potential. After playing the knock, Samson took to his Instagram account and shared a picture of himself from the action. He captioned the post – “Good times with the white jersey and the red ball.”

How did Samson reach the century?
Coming out to bat on the first day (Thursday) itself, Samson went on to score 89 runs from 83 deliveries. Continuing the knock on the next day, he was quick to rush to the three-figure mark. He took just 11 deliveries on the second day to bring up his hundred and just a boundary coming out of his bat. Batting at 98, Samson took a single but an overthrow from India B fielders allowed him to take one extra run, eventually completing the hundred, in just 94 balls.
This was also his first-ever hundred away from the Kerala cricket team in the red-ball format. The composed innings came to an end when Nitish Kumar Reddy caught him off Navdeep Saini’s bowling.
