New Delhi: The Minister for Civil Aviation, K Ram Mohan Noida recently announced a 50 per cent reduction in the airfare for the Mahakumbh 2025 attendees with immediate effect. The discussion was taken after three meetings with the airlines which aimed at making the once-in-a-lifetime event affordable and accessible to all.
In an interview with NDTV, the minister said that the government discussed with the airlines that the event which happens once in 140 years is very significant for the devotees and should be made accessible for them. The government also ensured the airlines do not have to incur financial loss due to the discount.
On January 2023, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) addressed the issue on social media urging the airlines to rationalise the airfares for the flights to Mahakumbh 2025. DGCA shared on X, “In view of likely surge in demand, DG (CA) met airlines on 23 January 2025 and urged them to increase further capacity by adding flights and rationalising fares.”
