New Delhi: Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner took a stunning catch to dismiss Sophie Ecclestone during the third and final ODI of the Ashes series against England at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Friday, January 17.
Spinner Alana King bowled a full delivery to Ecclestone in the 41st over and she tried to smash it for a maximum. The ball went flying towards deep mid-wicket and Gardner misjudged the catch initially but she jumped to take a one-handed stunner, lost her balance yet maintained it. She juggled the ball on the first attempt and then realized that the momentum was taking her towards the boundary ropes. She hurled the ball inside, went over the ropes and then put a forward dive to complete the catch.
Gardener talked about her catch after the match and said that she misjudged it completely “I clearly misjudged that because I took that one-handed. But then managed to throw it back in, you don’t practice it in heaps, luckily instincts took over” Gardner said.

Australia whitewash England in ODI series
Australia defeated England by 86 runs in the third ODI to seal the series by 3-0. The Aussies batted first and posted a formidable total of 308/8 in 50 over. Despite a poor start from top order Gardner and Beth Mooney rescued the innings and forged a 95-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Gardner notched up 102 off 100 balls and Tahlia McGrath also amassed 55 runs off 45 balls to steady the ship. Georgia Wareham’s explosive 38 runs off just 12 balls gave a spectacular finish to Australia’s innings.
Chasing the 309 runs target, the visitors lost early wicket but Nat Sciver-Brunt scored 61 runs off 68 balls and Tammy Beaumont also amassed 54 runs. Other batters failed to make any contribution in the run-chase as England bowled out for 222 runs.
After scoring a century for Australia, Ashleigh Gardner showed her brilliant fielding skills during the third ODI against England. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
