New Delhi: Young sensation Harry Brook dethroned charismatic English batter Joe Root to take the top spot in the latest ICC Test batting rankings on Wednesday. The 25-year-old batter overtook Root after his eighth Test century against New Zealand in Wellington last week, with the right-hander enjoying one-point advantage over his teammate in the rankings.
Apart from Brook, Indian pace spreadhead Jasprit Bumrah and spinner Ravindra Jadeja held on to their top positions in the bowlers and all-rounders ranking charts respectively. Brook sits atop the ladder with a total of 898 rating points, one more than Root, and also joins legendary Sachin Tendulkar with the equal 34th highest rating of all time for Test batters. Brook had scored 123 and 55 runs in England’s mammoth 323-run victory over the Black Caps, while Root had innings of 3 and 106 in the same Test.

Root displaced after 5 months
Experienced campaigner Joe Root had held on to the top spot since July this year and has been displaced after almost five months. Root, in July, had surpassed former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson from number one position. Meanwhile, the two batters would be battling up for the year-end number one spot once again when England take on New Zealand in the third and final Test match of the series in Hamilton from December 14.
Kane Williamson continues to hold the third spot on the batting charts while Indian sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal is on the fifth position. Lethal Aussie batter Travis Head has risen 6 spots to take up the fifth position while India’s Rishabh Pant has gained three positions to storm into the top 10 of the rankings.
