‘He is a great servant of our game’: Kane Williamson praises Trent Boult after his last T20WC match

New Delhi: New Zealand ended their T20 World Cup campaign with a 7-wicket win against Papua New Guinea (PNG) at Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad. This was also Trent Boult’s last match in the tournament. The left-arm pacer earlier announced that the ongoing T20 World Cup will be his last.

After the match, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson praised Boult and said that he is a great servant of cricket and it is sad to see him go.

“I think after every tournament there’s a bit of reflection, this being Trent’s last ICC tournament, great servant of our game and the world game, sad to see him go but that’s the nature of playing for a long time”.

He also praised the left-arm pacer and said that he trains hard and is also very fit. He also said that he still has a hunger for improving his performance and he is very clear about how he wants to operate.

Williamson also added that he always stepped up whenever the team needed him and made a fantastic contribution to the team’s success “Boult held himself in great stead across formats. He sticks his chest out and performs well. (He has made) a fantastic contribution and has created the space for new players to come in”.

Boult took two wickets and gave away just 14 runs in his last match against PNG. He picked up 80 wickets in 60 T20I matches for New Zealand.

The Blackcaps restricted PNG to 78 runs after opting to bowl first. Lockie Ferguson created history and bowled an incredible spell, he picked up 4 wickets in his 4 overs and conceded 0 runs. Trent Boult, Tim Southee and Ish Sodhi also picked up 2 wickets each.
