New Delhi: Faf du Plessis has said that star India batter will be ‘super motivated’ to end his rough patch after the poor Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Both Rohit and Kohli have struggled to score runs in the five-match Test series against Australia.
The Indian captain has scored just 31 runs at an average of 6.20 in the five innings while Kohli scored 190 runs at an average of 23.75 in five matches, including one hundred in the first Test. Kohli found it tough to score runs in the remainder of the series as the Australian bowler exploited his weakness.
Kohli was dismissed 8 times to deliveries outside the off-stump and has been questioned by fans and cricket experts about his future in the longest format of the game. Kohli has amassed 2028 runs in 39 matches at an average of 30.72, including three centuries and nine fifties, since 2020. Last year, He scored just 440 runs in 11 matches at an average of 23.15. His average in Test cricket has dropped from 54.97 in 2019 to 46.85 now.
Team India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by 3-1 and failed to qualify for the final of the World Test Championship. Australia will take on South Africa in the WTC final at Lord’s Cricket Ground on June 11.
‘Kohli knows exactly what to do’: Faf Du Plessis
Virat’s former RCB teammate Faf Du Plessis has backed him and said that he will be super motivated to end the rough patch and he knows what to do. He also talked about his retirement rumours and said that it is a very personal call and no one can speak to a player about it. He further added that retirement is different for every player and everyone needs to answer that question at one point.
“I know someone like him is super motivated, he’s gone through it all before, so he knows exactly what to do. I just knew that certainly from the Test cricket perspective for me. I didn’t have that same hunger and drive anymore and I felt that that stage certainly for me was a good time to let new guys come in and also step into the T20 world” said du Plessis as quoted by PTI.
