Hyderabad: BRS Working President KT Rama Rao lashed out at Congress after a host of defections from the BRS stating that his party has seen defections in the past and that the Congress eventually had to bow down.
Addressing the issue, he wrote on social media platform X “The power of people is always stronger than the people in power. We have faced several defections of MLAs in the past in 2004-06 when Congress was in Government.”
He further wrote, “Telangana responded strongly by stepping up the people’s agitation & eventually Congress had to bow its head. Histiry shall repeat itself.”
This comes in the background of a wave of defections from BRS in recent times. Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and Sanjay Kumar, MLAs from Banswada, Jagtiyal Assembly constituencies joined the grand-old party last week.
Prior to this, MLAs Danam Nagender, Kadiyam Srihari, Tellam Venkat Rao also defected to the Congress.
BRS, led by K Chandrasekhar Rao, has been in turmoil since it lost Assembly elections in November 2023. It has won 39 seats in Telangana Legislative Assembly in 2023 Assembly elections and it is now down to 33 after it lost in the Secunderabad Cantonment by-election. BRS was also unable to win even a single seat in the Lok Sabha in the recently held parliamentary elections.
Congress, which won 64 seats has now cemented its majority with 69 seats.
