New Delhi: The Hockey India League (HIL) men’s final will take place on Saturday as Hyderabad Toofans and Rarh Bengal Tigers are set to clash for the crown at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela. After more than a month, the revamped HIL will see one of these two teams stand on the podium, marking the completion of the tournament, which was away from action for the last seven years.
Rarh Bengal Tigers finished as the toppers of the points table with six wins and 19 points. Rupinder Pal Singh and his boys made sturdy efforts to overcome the Tamil Nadu Dragons storm twice in the semifinal. After the two teams finished level on scores at 2-2 after the four regular quarters, the Tigers pipped the Dragons 6-5 in the penalty shootouts despite trailing by 4-5.
Hyderabad Toofans thumped the Harmanpreet Singh-led Soorma Hockey Club 3-1 later in the day with goals from Amandeep Lakra, Jacob Anderson, and Nilakanta Sharma firing the Hyderabad outfit to the final while Jeremy Hayward scored a consolation goal for the Soorma club in the final minute to avoid a blank.
